Affordable Modern Nursery Decor

Congratulations! You are having a baby! Now it’s time to decide how to decorate your newborn’s room. Between clearing out your extra room, to painting, to decorating, this process will be long but worth it.

You can break the decorating process down into segments of time. First decide whether or not you are designing a more neutral theme (especially if you don’t know the gender of your child yet) with cream colors and splashes of greens, yellows, and oranges. Or, are you going full on baby girl or baby boy with a mostly pink or mostly blue color scheme?

Once you have figured out your color scheme, you need to decide if the nursery will be painted. If so, enlist your husband, family, friends, or a painting company to paint for you. You can’t be inhaling those paint fumes while pregnant. Thank goodness because painting is probably the least fun thing to do about decorating a nursery.

So after you have deciding your paint colors, now it is time to decide your furniture color: are you doing painted gray wood and gray metals? Are you doing dark brown for a forest theme or a white for an airy look?

Here are some modern ideas to help decorate your baby’s nursery to make it not only cute, but super comfortable:

  1. The Crib – If you decide your baby will eventually sleep in a crib, this is a great piece to anchor a room and plan the rest of the details along.

This low profile crib with geometric block feet in white New Zealand pine wood is the perfect main piece in your child’s nursery and is a great price at only $289.

Not only is the crib moden, but it is sustainable and safe for baby. It is Green Guard Gold certified as well.

2. The Changing Basket– Changing baskets are in right now and they make sense for the modern aesthetic, they are portable, and they are super affordable!

You can move the changing basket around your house and you don’t have to worry about bringing the baby back to a changing table upstairs if you are downstairs playing. OR you can bring it over to your parents’ or friend’s house while you visit and you will have an easy, clean, safe space for your baby to change them.

This super adorable 100% cotton baby diaper changing basket includes a thick pad with a cotton cover, a waterproof leather pad, a leaf shape cushion and a storage bag.

Also! This is a great piece to use for baby photo shoots! It will keep the baby contained while you take cute milestone pictures! Love the versatility of this basket. After your baby has grown out of diapers, you can use it for storing items like toys, etc.

It’s easy to clean, portable, modern, perfect for baby and only $69.99!

3. The Rocking Chair- An absolute must when decorating your nursery. This not only helps rock the baby to sleep, it also is a great, comfortable place to nurse your baby (if you so decide to), and a nice place to just relax when your baby is playing or sleeping in their crib.

This super modern chair is upholstered in a durable fabric and comes in a light gray coloring.

It has a backrest which will give your back a ton of support. Trust me, you will need it after having a baby. My back didn’t fully heal for about a year after giving birth.

This chair also has lovely metal accents that are warmed with solid, wooden rockers. The best part is the price, only $180!

4. The Wall Art – Obviously, art is subjective and also depend on the gender of your child/theme of your nursery. Here are a couple of starting points for nursery wall art that are popular right now and have a modern touch.

Macrame is very IN right now and is a staple in the modern nursery. Also trending right now is rainbows, so this is the perfect combination of both trends.

Macrame Rainbow Wall Tassels are adorable and affordable, only $19.99! Check them out on Amazon here:

Another wall art option is the hanging poster. This Alphabet Poster with Wooden Accents is perfect for the modern nursery. Its neutral gray color scheme will match almost any room.

This type of wall art also grows with your child. Not only can you have this in their room when they are baby, you can utilize this until probably about Kindergarten age. It’s 16″ x 24″, so it takes up a good amount of space for only $27.99!

5. The Fitted Crib Sheet – So you picked out your little one’s crib, now it’s time to pick out the fitted crib sheet. Because it is not safe for a baby to have any loose bedding (loose sheets, blankets, pillows, etc), you really only have to pick out a nice fitted crib sheet (since your baby will already be swaddled while sleeping – save the homemade quilts for supervised tummy time).

Neutral, bohemian color schemes are definitely popular in the modern nursery. These mauve/gold tones are beautiful with the sun and watercolor mountain on the modern crib sheet. You might want to grab two of them at this price: $19.99
